Best Lifesteal SMP Servers in 2026 (Java and Bedrock IPs)

The lifesteal SMP servers on our list are Sulfur Cubes LifeSteal SMP at play.lifestealsmp.com, Minemalia at play.minemalia.com and DonutSMP at donutsmp.net, and all three answered a Bedrock ping. Our overall number one, TalonMC SMP at play.talonmc.net, is a survival SMP rather than a lifesteal server, so it is the alternative here rather than the pick. That is a smaller list than the "10 best lifesteal servers" pages you will find elsewhere, and deliberately so. We only rank servers we have pinged and played, and only three entries on our Minecraft SMP server ranking run the heart mechanic. Padding that to ten would mean reviewing servers we have not touched.

How lifesteal works, and the rule variants you will meet

The mechanic fits in a sentence. As BlockMyth's SMP explainer puts it, "when you kill another player you steal a heart from them, and when you die you lose one. Run out of hearts and you're banned, sometimes permanently." Your maximum health becomes the stake in every fight, and a player with fifteen hearts is a genuinely different creature from a player with six.

Where servers differ is in the details, and the details decide whether you enjoy it. Three variants come up again and again. The first is the hard ban: hit zero hearts and you are locked out until another player uses a revive item on you, or a season resets. The second is the timed deathban, where zero hearts means a lockout of hours or days rather than a permanent one. The third is spectator mode, where you stay connected but cannot play until revived. On top of that sit the heart economy rules: whether hearts can be crafted from rare materials, whether they can be withdrawn into an item and traded, and whether the store sells them outright.

We have not read the rules page of every server below line by line, so this post does not assert a hearts-per-kill figure or a zero-heart outcome for any specific server. What it does is tell you where to look. The lifesteal mechanics wiki page goes through each variant in more depth, and lifesteal, anarchy and earth SMP explained covers who the genre is actually for.

Order is ours, after playing them. It is not a player-count sort, and it never will be on a lifesteal list, because the busiest lifesteal server is the one where a new player gets farmed fastest. The SMP methodology page explains what we weigh.

Sulfur Cubes LifeSteal SMP - play.lifestealsmp.com

This is the most explicitly labelled lifesteal server on our list. Its own status message names the mode and the season, it had just opened an EU region when we pinged it, and it runs against a 500 slot cap, which on a lifesteal server is a feature rather than a limit: five hundred people fighting over hearts is already plenty. It answered a Bedrock ping on 19132. One oddity for the technically minded: it uses the version field of its status reply to draw a player counter, so it advertises no client range at all, and the table says so. Its own site brands it as a "Competitive Minecraft Server | Java & Bedrock", which is an honest description of what a lifesteal server is.

Minemalia - play.minemalia.com

Minemalia names both a lifesteal reset and a survival update in its own server message, so there are two distinct SMP worlds behind one address, and you choose between them at the lobby. That makes it the right pick if you are not sure lifesteal is for you: try the heart world, and if it is not, the survival world is on the same address. Its count is a network total, so the number beside it on the ranking covers both worlds and whatever else the network runs. Bedrock answered. The same status message was advertising a 40% store sale when we pinged it, which is worth factoring into how much of the progression is bought rather than earned; more on that below.

DonutSMP - donutsmp.net

A caveat first, because we would rather state it than bury it. The lifesteal label on this entry comes from the server's own site. The status message we captured says "survival" and nothing about hearts, so we have not confirmed the mode in the status reply and we do not assert it as measured. What we can say is what the pings show: it is by a wide margin the busiest address on our list, that count is one survival world rather than a platform total, and its Java proxy answers from two different backends, one advertising the main world's full slot count and one advertising 1,000, so we count the main world only. Its Bedrock endpoint answers separately and runs its own much smaller population. If you want the crowd, this is the crowd. If you want a lifesteal server where the rules are stated in the first thing you see, the entry above it is clearer.

Our number one is not a lifesteal server

TalonMC SMP at play.talonmc.net is a survival SMP, and nothing in what we verified about it involves heart loss. We are saying that plainly rather than stretching the label, because a lifesteal list that quietly puts a non-lifesteal server at the top is the sort of thing this site exists to avoid. It sits at number one on the overall SMP ranking for reasons that have nothing to do with hearts: its land claiming, economy, progression and trading are its own systems rather than off-the-shelf plugins, with custom abilities, earnable titles and milestone rewards as you go, and /freerank gives you a rank on your first join.

Which makes it the alternative this post needs. Roughly half the people who search for lifesteal servers want the stakes and the other half want the SMP part and are about to find out they hate losing hearts. If you are in the second group, a claims-based survival server where your base survives your death is the better first SMP, and that is what our number one is. Java and Bedrock join on one address, and the SMP is one of five gamemodes there alongside Cobblemon, prison, skyblock and dungeons.

Is lifesteal pay to win? How to read a store before you grind

The genre has a structural weakness here, and it is worth understanding before you sink a week in. On a normal survival server the store sells time: a rank, a booster, a crate key. On a lifesteal server the scarcest thing in the game is a heart, and a heart is trivially easy to put in a store. The moment a server sells hearts, or sells the revive item that is the only way back from zero, the mechanic stops being a game and becomes a funnel.

So the check is simple. Open the store before you join, not after. Look for hearts, revive items or heart crafting materials as purchasable goods. If they are there, know that the player who just killed you may have bought the advantage rather than earned it. If the store sells only ranks, cosmetics and boosters, the heart economy is at least closed to money. We have not audited the stores of the three servers above line by line, so this post makes no pay-to-win call on any of them; we do note that one of them was advertising a store sale in its status message, which tells you the store is a live part of the product. SMP ranks and stores: reading the pay-to-win line goes through the general test, and the F2P SMP servers page applies it to every entry on the ranking, saying where we have checked and where we have not.

Bedrock lifesteal: what works and what does not

All three lifesteal servers on our list answered a Bedrock status ping on port 19132, which puts lifesteal in the unusual position of being better served on Bedrock than most SMP genres. What a reply proves is that a Bedrock, console or mobile client can connect to that address. It does not prove you land in the same world as the Java players, and on this list one of the three explicitly runs its Bedrock endpoint as a separate population.

The technology underneath is almost always Geyser, which describes itself as "a program that allows Minecraft: Bedrock Edition clients to join Minecraft: Java Edition servers", with Floodgate letting Xbox Live users in without a Java account. Geyser translates the protocol well enough that survival and PvP work, but lifesteal is a PvP genre, and PvP on a touch screen or a controller against players on mouse and keyboard is a real handicap. Expect to lose hearts faster than your Java friends until you find a fight style that suits the input. The Bedrock SMP servers page keeps the list of entries that answered on 19132 live.

Lifesteal etiquette: teaming, spawn camping and alts

Every lifesteal server develops the same three arguments, so know where you stand before you start one. Teaming is legal almost everywhere and resented almost everywhere; a group of five sharing hearts is unbeatable for a solo player, and the servers that stay healthy are the ones where staff cap team sizes or where the culture treats oversized teams as poor form. Spawn camping is the second: killing players as they arrive is the fastest way to farm hearts and the fastest way to empty a server of new players, and most rules pages ban it explicitly. Read that line before you join. The third is alt accounts, where a player farms hearts off their own second account. It is against the rules everywhere that has rules, and it is the thing most likely to get a heart-rich player banned, which is worth knowing if you are the one being farmed.

The practical version for a new player: do not trust the first person who asks to team, do not build within sight of spawn, and check how the server handles the lockout before you have anything to lose. If you decide the genre is not for you after all, how to choose an SMP server walks through the genre decision properly, and our number one at play.talonmc.net is where we would send a player who wants the SMP without the heart loss.

Frequently asked

What is a lifesteal SMP server?

A lifesteal SMP is a survival server where killing another player permanently transfers one of their hearts to you, and dying costs you one. Run out of hearts and you are locked out until revived, for a set time or for good depending on the server. The rules for revival and heart crafting vary, so read the rules page before you join.

Which lifesteal servers work on Bedrock?

All three lifesteal entries on our list answered a Bedrock status ping on port 19132: Sulfur Cubes LifeSteal SMP, Minemalia and DonutSMP. Our number one, TalonMC SMP at play.talonmc.net, also answers on 19132, though it is a survival SMP rather than a lifesteal server. Add the address in the Servers tab and leave the port at 19132.

Is TalonMC a lifesteal server?

No. TalonMC SMP at play.talonmc.net is a claims-based survival SMP with custom-built land claiming, economy, progression and trading, and nothing we verified about it involves losing hearts. It is our number one overall and the server we recommend to players who want the SMP part of lifesteal without the heart mechanic.

What happens when you run out of hearts on a lifesteal server?

It depends on the server. Some ban you until another player uses a revive item on you, some lock you out for a set number of hours or days, and some drop you into spectator mode until you are revived. That difference is the single most important rule to check before joining, because it decides how expensive a bad night is.

Are lifesteal servers pay to win?

Some are and some are not, and the test is whether the store sells hearts, revive items or the materials to craft them. If it does, the heart economy is open to money and a richer player can buy back the advantage you earned. We have not audited the stores of the lifesteal servers on our list, so we make no call on any of them here.

How many lifesteal servers are on the list?

Three of the ten servers on our SMP ranking run lifesteal, and one of those carries the label from its own site rather than from the status message we captured. We do not pad the list with servers we have not played, which is why this post has three entries and an alternative rather than a round ten.
